Madonna

I think Madonna, Dylan and Waters are very different in their styles but each one is a good artist. Madonna has songs with controversial topics that in the 80’s were very criticized because in that time people didn’t talk about sex and money in an open way.

While Madonna has lyrics about common problems but unpublicized in the past, Dylan sang romantic songs that are pretty sad but with hope; while Madonna have pretended to be a known singer, a sex icon in the whole world, Dylan used to be a black artist that lived in a problematic history process in the States that sang love songs that expresses honest feelings.

They are very different as I already said, but it doesn’t mean that one of them isn’t a serious singer. They are good artists, examples to others that want to be famous, they’re singers that are going to be remembered always in the future.

Page 1 - Music

The song that I like the most is “Blowin’ in the Wind” of Bob Dylan. I hadn’t hearted it before but I think it has a very good lyric, a lyric that has good sense of life. When you listen to the song, you begin to think about the deeply meaning of the life and that is interesting.

First, I have to say that this song doesn’t talk about love, the most common topic in music. The sense of the song is maybe how long we have to wait and to learn of life to be thoughtful people. When I think on that, I think in how long the road of life is and how deep it is! We are learning in each experience to be a good person every day and this song has to be with this hard topic.

Besides, I like the voice of the singer, Bob Dylan. He sang it with a lot of feeling and is very important to feel the real meaning of the song, because it is very pretty and with a lot of common sense.

By the way I like the answer of the own song: all the answers are “blowin’ in the wind”, it make you think that all is experiences of life, of your own way.

Homework

5. Black's history is very hard, they suffered a lot here and in the whole world. Because of that, I think all the lyrics of blues’ songs are pretty sad, black people in the past maybe thought they didn’t have the opportunity to be happy, and that is not good.

For that reason, I think sadness in blues song are explained in the hard history of slaves in the United States.

6. Is weird because perhaps lyrics are very sad, but the rhythm is pretty nice. That why I think when I listen to this kind of music, I don’t feel sad, because the way that the songs are singing is not melancholic but very optimistic, maybe the feeling of black people in that moment because “everything is gonna be aright” like the famous song of Bob Marley, that is not blues but reggae, also “black music”

Introducing myself

My name is Natalia Muriel, I am from Colombia and I am 23. I was born in Bogota, the capital of my country, and there I used to live with my parents and my older sister Lina.

I studied Law at the Rosario University in Bogota. I love my major even though it is very hard and difficult, lawyers must study all time because law is changing every day.

I graduated last August, I am here because I want to improve and learn English. In my country people should know English very well if they want to find a good job and that’s my purpose. Also, I want to live something different in my life, I want to have a life experience here meeting new people in a different country.

In seminar class I want to learn about music and art, it is very important and a good skill that gives you general culture, that’s why I think is very interesting for me.

My dreams for future are have a good family, obviously with children, have a good professional performance, travel around the world and have a healthy and successful life.

In Colombia I used to go to the gym to “rumba classes” because I love to dance, I think it gives you health and of course, a happy time. By the way I love to sing but the problem is that I don’t have a good voice… it doesn’t matter.

I hope these months are going to be very productive for me, nice to meet you all!
